Homeopathy, what is it and how may it be able to help you?

Homeopathy is the second largest system of medicine in the world and has been used for over 200 years. It is an energy-based natural therapy that seeks to stimulate the body’s own healing power to promote harmony and health.

Many things contribute to illness, including  inherited weaknesses, diet and the stresses and strains of modern life. Sometimes the body is unable to restore balance and that is when we become ill. Homeopathic medicine (called remedies) can act as a trigger, stimulating the body’s self-healing powers, increasing health and vitality and bringing a person in to emotional, physical and mental good health. When we are free from symptoms we are free to live our lives to the full.

Homeopathy treats the person as a whole, rather than just treating their symptoms. This approach is one of the main differences between homeopathy and conventional medicine. For example, if you are suffering from a skin condition, anxiety and arthritis, the conventional route might involve three entirely different courses of treatment; by contrast a homeopath would consider all of these physical, mental and emotional symptoms to be linked and would therefore treat them as a whole. This means that remedies are not chosen purely on physical symptoms; two people with the same medical condition are very unlikely to be prescribed the same homeopathic remedies.

As homeopathy is designed to treat the whole person it can therefore be considered in almost any situation where a person’s health is depleted. Homeopathy is often used by patients with long term chronic problems, many of which have failed to respond to conventional medicine. It can also be very useful in the treatment of minor ailments, from cuts and bruises (Arnica is a well-known homeopathic remedy!) to coughs and colds.
